What to look out for when changing career.
Updated: Dec 17, 2019
So you have an idea about what you want to do next and you can't shake it! BUT you aren't sure it's the right move.
What do you do?
Deny it ever exists?
Or do you give it some thought?
Ignoring or denying it never works. It just comes back to hit you in the face. But giving yourself room to breathe, letting it fill your imagination, might help you explore your idea more fully.
Research is your friend. The more informed your decision the clearer you will be as to whether this is a good move.
What can you do to find out more?
Google is your friend.
Nowadays you can find out anything on the internet. Google it and you will find a plethora of answers! Be discerning about the information.
Know that it is the *internet and not everything is authentic (aka 'fake news'!), but you can glean a lot in a short space of time. Use that to your advantage.
Know what qualifications you need.
Do you need any qualifications?
Are you willing to do what it takes to qualify?
Knowing what needs to be done moves you one step closer to figuring out whether this is the right step for you.
Ask to speak to someone in that field.
Some questions to ask:
1) How hard is it to break into this field as a second career? 2) How long will it take? (Approximately)
3) What does it pay?
4) Is it easy to get work in it? Or get paid for it?
5) What kind of qualifications do I need?
After following these steps, then you can plan the next. But first research research research! And don't ignore or deny your emotions.
Have a great day!
