Ask for a promotion if you want one!

Asking for what I want has always been difficult for me because

  1. I believe I am not capable of achieving what I want, and

  2. it makes me vulnerable to others just in case I fail.

So I don't ask for what I want.

The thing is, if you don't ask for what you want, you won't get it.

For example, if you want a promotion, but don't ask for it, your boss will have no clue that it's something that you want.

It is unreasonable to expect that your boss ought to know that you want to a promotion simply because you have done such amazing work.

He is not a mind reader.

He has a million and one other things on his mind besides your career progression.

Your career progression is yours to handle. No one else's responsibility.

So put the onus back on yourself. If you want something but don't dare ask for it, ask why that is?

  • What's stopping you from asking for the promotion?

  • What kind of negative connotations surround that inability to ask for what you want?

Examine the reasons why you don't believe you can have this promotion.

Dig deep.

Find out why you have these beliefs.

Once you get to the bottom of it, you can focus on your ask.

Have a great day!
